About Us 關於我們

Before the founding of the HKBUAAO (Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association of Ontario), we would occasionally meet some familiar faces on the streets of Toronto, and sometimes couldn't remember the name. Some of us knew a few HKBU alumni who lived in Toronto, and had gatherings from time to time. There were many small groups like that, and people from time to time would raise the question, "Why don't we have an alumni association in Toronto?"

Back in 1988, our alma mater was still named 'college'. Some alumni went back to Hong Kong and met with then Hong Kong Baptist College President Dr. Daniel Tse. They brought back a mission from Dr. Tse that he would like to see the alumni of the HKBC coming together to form some overseas alumni associations. A few of us started off as a small group. Each of us then called upon some others that we knew to spread the word of our mission.

We organized a couple of dinner gatherings and invited all the friends we knew to join. Through these events, we started to collect personal information to form a communication/distribution list. In the Fall of 1989, we officially established the HKBUAAO and the first Staff Committee was sworn-in by Dr. Daniel Tse who made a special trip to Toronto for this historical and memorable event.

To this date, we have had 5 presidents, each serving a two-year term. They are Mr. C.B Liu (1989-1991), Mr. Samuel Yu (1992-1993), Mr. Frankie Sit (1994-1995), Mr. Kam Ho (1996-1997) and Mr. Kun-Tin Lee (1998-1999, 2000-2001) who is the current president.

The 'Hong Kong Baptist University Alumni Association of Ontario' is a non-profitable society and has the following purposes:

1. Liaison - to establish mutually beneficial relations between alumni and HKBU
2. Help - to establish mutual support and assistance among alumni and HKBU
3. Growth - to foster personal growth among alumni with the aim of becoming good citizens

Support - to encourage alumni to provide full support to our association and HKBU

All student Alumni and staff of Hong Kong Baptist University can apply to become a member of the HKBUAAO.

The HKBUAAO has organized a number of activities, such as annual dinner gatherings, annual BBQs, lecture and discussion, manufacturing site visits, sight-seeing, joint function with Hong Kong High Schools Alumni Association for the Hong Kong Festival in Toronto, joint functions with the other four Hong Kong universities, including gala dinners and a boat cruise, etc.
